Is it panic time in Syracuse?

spt-110201-boeheim-sad_standard

Things are getting tense in Syracuse. Four straight losses with a game at UConn tonight? If that’s not a topic tailor-made for sports talk radio, I don’t know what is. (Heck, it’s also prompting out-there rumors.)

It’s also a links bonanza.

It’s gut-check time. It’s time to stop the bleeding. Jim Boeheim’s losing his cool. They all hit on the same issue – what is going on with the Orange?

I’m with The Juice: The defense is bad right now. The 2-3 zone isn’t stopping anyone (though the skid has included games against Pitt, Villanova and Marquette, hardly easy Ws) and the centers are crap right now.

(My favorite link of the bunch? This explanation from Troy Nunes is an Absolute Magician: The Orange are in a down cycle.)

So what’s Boeheim gonna do? Ken Davis weighs in during this week’s column, where he stresses the fan base shouldn’t fret. Not yet, anyway. There’s still plenty to like about the Orange, particularly if Kris Joseph and Scoop Jardine pick it up.

And besides. Even if the Orange lose to UConn, the streak won’t hit six games. Not with South Florida up next.
