Bob Knight thinks there’s plenty of blame to go around in the Ohio State football scandal. Including blame for “idiotic” rules.
The former Indiana and Texas Tech basketball coach – and 1962 Ohio State graduate – spoke to reporters Monday night before giving the keynote address at the the Henry P. Iba Citizen Athlete Awards ceremony and, as Knight is wont to do, spoke his mind.
Five Ohio State players, including quarterback Terrell Pryor, were suspended for the first five games of next season after word emerged that they traded jerseys, rings, trophies and other items for tattoos. Things spiraled to the point that coach Jim Tressel resigned last week.
So the players messed up. Knight gets it. But he also thinks the rule is stupid. Also, the NCAA “is so far out of touch with the integrity of the sport that it’s just amazing.”
Easy there, Knight. Don’t go throwing around terms like integrity when there are things like this in your past.
