UCLA snagged a verbal commitment from Dominic Artis Sunday night, but it’s hard to fully explain how the 5-11, 170-pound guard could impact the Bruins’ program starting in 2012.

Artis, rated as a top 20 point guard prospect by Scout, Rivals and ESPN, told Evan Daniels of Scout.com that he was lured by the school’s point guard legacy. For a team desperate for an impact lead guard – some say Artis is the top PG prospect on the West Coast – his arrival can’t come fast enough.
Hey, BN is already excited about the kid.
But just as interesting is what happens to the rest of UCLA’s 2012 class. Wing Jordan Adams has already committed, and the Bruins are reportedly the leader for Shabazz Muhammed, the top overall prospect in the class of 2012.
That may not leave any room for the likes of Kyle Anderson or L.J. Rose in Westwood. It’d be tough to get either playmaker on the court with Artis and the other wings. (Granted, I’m not sure Rose or Anderson were really headed west.)
Maybe now some more commitment dominoes will start to fall as players wrap up their summer AAU camps and prep for their senior seasons. Hey, one can hope.
