Former Michigan star and Fab Five member Jimmy King was arrested Tuesday by agents from the Michigan Attorney General’s office for failure to pay more than $17,000 in child support, according to a report from the Detroit Free Press.
King, 38, was charged with one count of failing to pay child support and could face up to four years in prison.
King, along with Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Juwan Howard and Ray Jackson, is considered part of one of the greatest college basketball classes ever recruited. All five eventually started during their freshman season of 1991-92 and they even reached the national title game that season.
They followed that with another appearance in the title game, but earned more fame by their style, clothing and attitude. They won games and fans. Simple as that. Even years later, the Fab Five story remains one of the game’s biggest draws, evidenced by the popularity of a recent documentary on ESPN.
(Coming on the heels of Rose’s recent drunk driving incident, the Fab Five have seen better days.)
However, King didn’t reach the same heights as teammates Webber, Rose and Howard. Those three went onto NBA riches and left Michigan early. King and Jackson stayed at Michigan all four years and had short NBA careers.
Now it’ll be interesting how that affects King, who reportedly owes child support for one child from 2008 to 2011. He had worked as an analyst for ESPN and Michigan.
