Georgia desperate to get top prospect cleared to play

Kansas’ three freshmen are hardly the only school still waiting for the NCAA to clear players.

This post from Jeff Goodman lists Jahii Carson (Arizona State), LaQuinton Ross (Ohio State), Amir Garrett and Norvel Pelle (St. John’s), Olexiy Len (Maryland) and Marcari Brooks (DePaul) as guys waiting for academic clearance. All of them are expected to be immediate contributors – or more.

Well, add one more. And he’s another crucial player.

Georgia’s waiting to hear when Kentavious Caldwell-Pope -- a 5-star prospect and the biggest recruit headed to Athens in years, will be available -- according to Jeff Borzello. Caldwell-Pope’s issues aren’t academic, but AAU related. A coach allegedly paid the phone bill of Caldwell-Pope’s mother.

Georgia football player got extra benefits from two people who ran a Georgia team, but was cleared in August.

“No idea how this will turn out,” a source told Borzello. “But his case is surely taking much longer to resolve than Jarvis Jones.’ ”
