When Andre Drummond announced he’d enroll at Connecticut for the 2011-12 season – still a minor shock – it vaulted the Huskies into “team to beat” status, along with North Carolina and Kentucky.
If he can play, that is.
The 6-11 center was featured in a video on the Stack TV website in which he and Providence recruit Kris Dunn appeared to be endorsing adidas sneakers. That’s a big no-no. It’s since been taken down, which the school says should be enough for Drummond to retain his eligibility.
“UConn was made aware of the video in question late this afternoon and has reviewed it,” read a statement from the school. “Our compliance staff is comfortable that the video was made in advance of Andre’s enrollment at UConn. Our next step is to simply follow up with the website on which it is posted and ask that it be removed, which we have already done.”
UConn also says Drummond wasn’t paid for the video. But the Connecticut Association of Schools is seeking more information.
“The video in itself is not a violation,” CIAC director of information Matt Fischer told the Hartford Courant. “We have to find out the circumstances around it.”
UConn says it’ll report everything and send it to the NCAA. If Drummond’s image and name are retracted from the video, it should be an issue.
